It's Here! Google Classroom Has Arrived!

You've asked for it, and we've delivered! Google Classroom is now active for Everyone in the district! If you're experiencing issues with Microsoft Teams and would like to try Classroom, it's super easy just follow the steps outlined in this article.

Getting To Google Classroom

Open your browser and go to classroom.google.com.

Sign in to your goknights.us Google account. This should be your firstname.lastname@goknights.us and the same password you use to login to both your computer and your email.

Creating Your First Class

You will now be taken to the Classroom Dashboard where you can create your first Classroom! To do this click on the + button at the top right hand corner of the page and select "Create Class".

In the "Create Class" dialog box enter in the name of the class, the section for that class, and the subject of that class. There will be a drop down menu that will give you some pre-made subjects however you do not have to use these if you do not want to.

After you've filled in the proper information for your class, click on the "Create" button.

Adding Students To Your Class

Now that your class is created, you can add students by clicking on the Students tab at the top of the page.

This will bring you to the Students dashboard for your newly created class. Here you can invite students to join your class by having them type in the class code displayed on the middle of the page.

Your Students Will join a class by logging into Google Classroom just like you did but instead of clicking on create a class, they will click on "Join Class".

When a student clicks on Join Class, a dialog box will pop up requesting the class code for the class you've just created. Once they enter in the class code, they will click Join and they will now be in your class!

Creating Assignments

To create an assignment for your students, click on the Stream tab at the top left of page.

Next click on the + button at the bottom right hand corner of the screen. With this menu you can create announcements, assignments, questions, or you can reuse a post you've already used before. We will be creating an assignment so click on the Create Assignment option.

Next on the Assignment dialog box, fill in the information for the assignment you'd like to create. You can use the paper clip icon to attach a file, the Drive icon to attach something from Google Drive, the YouTube Icon to link a video in your assignment, or link icon to link a webpage to your assignment if you wish.

If you wish to schedule the assignment rather than assign it right now, you can click on the down arrow next to the "Assign" button and click on one of the three options: Assign, Schedule, and Save Draft. To finish your assignment, click on Assign.

Once your assignment has been created, it will show up on your class's "Stream" where you can see how many students have done or not done the assignment, as well as add a class comment to the assignment if you wish.

While this is not a comprehensive overview of the entire Classroom, this should get everyone started at least with creating a class, adding students, and creating an assignment. Have fun and enjoy using Google Classroom!
